QTRA Update Training

Since our first Quantified Tree Risk Assessment training workshop we have trained over 2000 Registered Users of the system. During this period, feedback from Registered Users along with questions and debate on the QTRA Discussion List has resulted in modification and refinement of the system. To bring Registered Users up to date and to address any questions that have arisen through application of QTRA, we run regular update workshops.

We are pleased to announce that after a lot of hard work, QTRA Version 5 was rolled out in December 2013. We have held a series of Update Workshops to bring users up to speed with the revised and simplified method. If there is nothing scheduled that is convenient for you, let us know and we will see if we can arrange something closer.

If you are coming along to one of the Updates, we look forward to seeing you and can guarantee some useful changes to the QTRA method.  This is the most significant evolution to QTRA since it first appeared in the Journal of Arboriculture in 2005.  It's involved a lot of very hard work, constructive debates, and behind the scenes number crunching.  We're sure you're going to value all the effort because the new improved QTRA will be easier to use, is a more robust system, and makes explaining the Risk of Harm outcomes to clients simply.

The main changes are:

  • A brand new redesigned manual calculator, software, and apps
  • Risks of Harm outputs will now be averages of the combined input ranges rather than an upper value (this is what Monte Carlo simulation enables us to do)
  • ‘Traffic light’ colour-coded Risk of Harm output ranges to inform clients, which means that most risk management decisions can be made simply on the basis of the colour of an output
  • Improved guidance in the Practice Note and User Manual
  • The assessment process and in particular application of the QTRA Walkover Survey
  • Using the Quantified Tree Risk Assessment Walkover Survey to minimise inputs whilst maximising the value of your outputs
  • Calibrating the users Probability of Failure estimates.

There are many minor tweaks such as dropping the Size range 5 and updating the Value of Statistical Life.  We will walk you through all this in the User Manual guidance and Update Workshops.

This workshop is currently provided to existing Registered Users at a cost of only £160 plus vat.  Bookings should be made on the 'Booking Forms' section of the website.
